Genghis Grill to Open First Location in Georgia

Genghis Grill is opening a brand new location in Buford, Georgia, its first Atlanta area restaurant. The Buford site will be located in front of Mall of Georgia, at the corner of Buford Drive and Mall of Georgia Boulevard, in the former Ray’s Pizza location. It is slated to open at the end of September. Genghis Grill will also be expanding into the Buckhead and Perimeter Mall areas of Atlanta by the end of the year.

Can home cooking be hazardous to your health?

New research suggests that at least one in seven home kitchens would flunk the kind of health inspection commonly administered to restaurants.
The small study from California's Los Angeles County found that only 61 percent of home kitchens would get an A or B if put through the rigors of a restaurant inspection. At least 14 percent would fail — not even getting a C.

Burger King Holdings to Be Acquired by 3G Capital

Burger King Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BKC) (the “Company”) and 3G Capital today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which affiliates of 3G Capital will acquire the stock of the Company for $24.00 per share, or $4.0 billion, including the assumption of the Company’s outstanding debt.

Is it a bar or a restaurant?

There's a fundamental shift that seems to be going on in restaurants. As with life, things keep getting more casual and the line between a bar and restaurant continues to blur.
I realize nothing emerges in a vacuum. The trend is a result of several parallel threads coming together. During the dot-com boom last decade we saw the emergence of the large restaurant lounge; many new restaurants of that era gave over large amounts of space to the bar because young affluent patrons wanted a drop-in casual experience.

Mr. Goodcents names franchisee as new CEO

Sandwich chain Mr. Goodcents has tapped former Applebee's International CEO David Goebel as its new chief executive. Goebel, who replaces Joe Bisogno, is also a Mr. Goodcents franchisee and will continue to operate his five shops. The dual role offers valuable insight into the franchisee mindset, Goebel said. Darden 4Q profit drops, sales 'volatile'

Darden Restaurants Inc., the nation's largest casual-dining operator, reported Wednesday a 6-percent, year-to-year drop in its fourth-quarter profit amid what it said was month-to-month sales volatility and cautious consumer sentiment. Orlando-based Darden, which operates 1,824 restaurants under brands including Red Lobster and Olive Garden, reported net income of $115.6 million, or 80 cents per share, for the fourth quarter ended May 30. In the same quarter a year earlier Darden earned $123 million, or 87 cents per share.
